Hello

Postby daveparry » Sun Jul 05, 2009 4:45 am

Hi all, new member just like to say hello to everyone.
I have a 1973 Interstate which i've owned since about 1975, have done several mods to it over that time, upgraded front brake of course, now has a Grimeca caliper and I sleeved down the master cylinder to 13mm, brake now works very well.
I also fitted Boyer transistor ignition many years ago.
I fitted a 3 phase alternator a few years ago and power box so no zenner diode to bother about now and the battery keeps up well even during town riding with headlight on. Also fitted quite a few stainless fixings etc and made-up some stainless silencer mounting plates, just need to turn-up some stainless spacers to go withy them now.
As I don't use the bike as much as I should, I have always had the old 'wet sumping' problem, it's only done about 19,000 miles from new so I don't really think it's likely to be a pump clearance problem, tried the straight 40 and 50 grade oils and leaving pistons on compression without much sucess, I did have a non-return valve in the feed line for a while but chickened out of that due to some horror stories that i've read!
I have just fitted a tap in the feed line, it incorporates an inhibitor switch that's connected into the ignition circuit so that the engine cannot be started with the oil turned off. I was going to make one of these up myself but then spotted one on a Matchless G9 at a recent show, then found a chap that makes them up and advertises them via the AMC owners club, quite a neat job, fits in the oil feed line where it runs across the top of the gearbox.
That's about it for now, hope I haven't bored too many of you, ride safely,
regards,
Dave Parry

Also have, 1994 R80RT, 1984 Suzuki ZN85 and soon to be starting a basket case 1968 BSA Lightning!

Welcome Dave. Thanks for the matchless valve info. Think I will look into that. I'm in the middle of a 71 resto.
