norton/1973------ I started old vrs new brakes on forum- I just heard from Derek LLoyd via e-mail, he has the complete Brembo system and says it's GREAT! I was wondering if anyone had a Grimeca system ( ex. just M/C or caliper, or combo. or complete system) another forum member stated they found, as did I, a Grimeca M/C that bolts right up to the Original Lockheed cluster, thus eliminating the need for aftermarket turn signals, etc. If anyone has the above, Please let me know what your opionion is, Brembo or Grimeca ? or personal preference> Thanks very much ////// Just more info. to totally confuse me.

Hi, I am also interested in any info on that master cylinder. The one that will use the existing switch cluster. Is that one that RGM sells? Also, this seems to me like a post that would be better placed on the "Norton Commando" site to get more response. Thanks, Glenn.

Assuming everything, master and caliper size, lever advantage, pad area are the same, there would be little to no difference between a Brembo or Grimeca system. Getting the master cylinder sized correctly is probably the single most important part of choosing a brake system. Let's say the Brembo and Grimeca calipers are the same diameter, but the Brembo has a larger diameter master cylinder. Then you will have a differently performing brake system, all other things being the same. The biggest problem with the stock Norton disc brake is that the master cylinder is grossly oversized. I have a Grimeca caliper and master cylinder sized to a ratio of 27:1, 12' floating rotor, stainless steel line and couldn't be happier. In fact, it hauls my Norton down as fast, probably faster considering the weight difference, as the twin Brembo setup on my BMW K75. Read this. It's a big help when choosing brake components.
