Hello All. I've just got this early featherbed swingarm but the tube that carries the pivot bushes/bearings is not symmetrical - one side is shorter then the other, should it be or has it been altered if so then I might send it back or there is the possibility of converting it to Manx style bushes - anyone have the dimensions for this?

Well I managed to get through to Les at Fairspares and he said it is off a single - so why are they different and how is it spaced out?

hi nourish,i think that swingarm has been altered for some reason,the singles and twins frames are the same dimensions in the area between the gusset plates[where the swingarm fits]best thing to do is offer it up to the frame and see whats what

Or send it back, leave negative feedback and demand a refund!!!

They are using EBay to get rid of stuff thats only fit for scrap!

I also called Mike Pemberton of the N.O.C.C.and Pushrod Performance he seemed pretty sure it's a pre featherbed swinging arm so I presume a model 7/ES2 ?

I have used that information to check a few pre-featherbed swinging arm assemblies in various parts book exploded diagrams, and yours does appear to be a good match to what is shown (even though your photo only gives a view of the underside) so it probably is from a pre-featherbed Model 7, ES2, etc..

I'm pretty sure that your swinging arm is from a pre-featherbed International. That frame used an asymmetrical arrangement for the pivot tube, and the International and Manx used the flattened and slotted tube for wheel axle mounting and adjustment. The roadster models used a much heavier cast lug arrangement for wheel mounting.

You can use it in any of the pre-featherbed (single down tube) s/a frames, and you should be aware that your swinging arm is quite rare and hence more valuable than a standard model, it may also have had a racing history.

or possibly not! It also has road going chainguard brackets on top! I had 2 of those swingarms over the years (but with equal sides...they were in wideline featherbeds, which also used the flattened ends)....although mine did get some racing history before I upgraded to Seeleys!!
