I would like to point out that threads that do not get any responses fade away fairly quickly. Those that interest the most people rise to the top. I would urge those that find nothing of interest in the popular posts to either start threads they find of value, or add value to the existing topics by raising the bar with their own posts.

We have an interesting thread active here right now. It started out as a question about big bore headers and morphed into discussions on exhaust port shape and the use of epoxies in high temp applications. To me this is good stuff and I couldn't have concieved of a topic that would have drawn this out. It is good to have spontaneous interaction. Even on old topics.

As for me, I don't have a group of Britt Bike Buddies I hang out with on the weekend. The chances of standing next to Commando that I don't own are small. So I look at the posts here and try to glean what I can from them, as it all helps to improve my understand and my eye as to what I am looking at. For those that have much more experience I can see how this process could get to be a bore. Unless you want a technical section that requires passing a test before you can post there, I don't know how you are going to weed the rest of us out. It is something that could be done however, allow all users to read the section, but only allow those of expert caliber to post there. Think about it, design a list of questions to keep the Boyer challenged Hoi Polloi in the street until we become polished enough to ride at the front of the pack. However, I have seen this sort of thing done with other forums and the result was that the nobility had nothing to say to each other.

Im in favour of leaving things more or less as they are. It is definitely the best forum I have ever been a member of. Having said that, it is good to clear the air from time to time. Regarding posters asking the same old questions about Boyers, crankcase breathers, etc., maybe a FAQ section would be helpful. Sometimes, it is difficult to find exactly what you are looking for using the Search function; you could be looking through fifty threads before you found the ones you're looking for. I don't know how much extra work it would take to organise an easy, quick way to access these well-aired topics, but I would not want to give the people responsible for keeping this show going more work than they already do. We should appreciate Jerry Doe's goodwill and L.A.B's steady hand on the tiller. Thanks to both of you for what you do.

May be an FAQ section just to stop repetition may be an idea but the format the way it is O.K to me it's like a news paper, you read what you want not the whole flaming thing, there's riding to be done. :?

As it is the only "hobby" I have apart from bikes and bike-related activities, I would be willing to slowly move the existing subject threads to any new sections the admin feels are appropriate to add to the forum, if I was given temporary moderator access to do that specific task. It's slow and laborious, but I've done it on TriumphRat.Net, TriumphTalk.Com and various Delphi forums dealing with British & classic bikes. The results have been unanimously positive.

That said, I didn't count replies but it seems to be leaning toward "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"...

shouldn't it be about time for this thread to die and go away? I like hortons picture a lot and am also going for a ride now. Then I am going to take the head off my norton again and do various maintenance tasks on my various bikes since we are nearing the end of riding season here in the flat lands.

My wyfe gives me nasty looks when she sees some of the pix that come up on various motorcycle forums...

Not that it's a bad idea, just that it doesn't play well with many spouses.

Got the bike loaded up and headed for a gloruis weather wekend of camping and riding in the Texas hill country, just waiting for her to get back with the groceries.

See y'all Monday night; have fun.

I think that just about wraps it up then!

It does appear the majority of our members consider the forum "aint broke" and are mostly content to have things left as they are-for now at least (will we need a 961 section soon?)!

Personally...I'm relieved, as I (or anyone else) won't have the unenviable task of making judgments about which threads are "technically" off-topic in either the "technical" or "non-technical" sections and require moving to the other section;-especially as many threads often start off about one thing and then wander off onto something entirely different, and after all, I've been moaned at for moving completely off-topic posts before now, so I wouldn't really look forward to doing that job!

Thanks to everyone for their comments.

Hi Guys,

Sorry I only just noticed this thread. The forum is staying the way it is. If you want to look at certain technical stuff, you can use the seacrh function to zero in.

Regards--Jerry
