black cat, that frame looks like a reinforced widomaker frame. I am preparing to do the same thing to my widowmaker frame.

What can you tell me about it?

Different numbers.
So there are at least 2 on the planet.

Both '68 and '69 were from Art's collection. I'm looking at one of my NCNOC club ride photos of Art on the '68 - the one in question here.

Bob,

It is the original frame(123671) which I had modified about 15 years ago by cutting up a later frame. I did have a friend of mine who is a welder by trade take a look at the frame now that I have it all apart and he gave it a thumbs up. Have not had any problems with it in all these years so I think it is worth the effort to modify your frame with the use of a donor frame.

Thanks black cat. Is there any chance that you could measure the outside diameter of the tube you had welded in? I am going to have to buy a piece of seamless steel tubing of the right size since I don't have access to a another frame to source the real thing.

Combat ~
With the prices OS and even NZ, it is feasible to ship a bike from US or Nz will set an Ozzie back about $1500 in shipping and import costs. Of course there ar elot of variables and it can be a real mine field !

With the prices in Australia and the improved Ozzie dollar it is very practical~

I know few blokes here that have bought bikes in ! Any mechanical deficiencies aside they were quite happy ~ Mate in Woolongong bought his T150 in NZ and shipped it over ~

My problem is that I live in Far north QLD and any purchase has to bought into Sydney, Brisbane , Melbourne or Perth ~ so thats more shipping !

Not to change subjects dramatically but I have a NOS gas tank in the red & silver but a green tail section(nasty shade of green, etc.) that needs a repaint. Has anyone done this and if so do they have any suggestions on paint?

Phuc I hate that, they say it's an auction and I will let the market set the price, yeh right, put the bloody start price up by the reserve, or don't have a reserve and let the market set the price, as soon as some one pays that for a commando the markets stuffed, aus$ is higher than us$, its not as if they are rare, you can still buy 'genuine' parts to build a new bike.

Sure can;- and the Norvil Shop in the UK is proof. They list variants and packages of new ~ build bikes ~~ and the price is not unrealistic ~ I was tempted when I first got into buying a Commando but the AUD V GBP was not real flash then !

In fact I think I would buy one of theirs rather than an unknown quantity bike for $16K.. In fact they used to have an agent in Sydney ~ not sure if that stil stands though!
