Not bad at all, if it's running with title...

Here are some details about the bike.

"1973 850 Ill. Clean title. Matching numbers. Has been sitting a couple years with tank dry, great compression, I worked on it for a fellow 3 years ago and it ran very good, I put on ’75 triple trees. Seems to drive straight if memory serve me. the owner was too frail to start it. Mikuni, Boyer, rebuilt forks, Taiwanese fork boots clapped out. Chrome primary, trans and timing cover. Tires are old, great wiring harness brakes seem good, I plan to get it running next week, price should remain. Thanks for looking."

So there you have it. 73 850, clear title, and will be running soon. $5,500 That's a very good deal.

Hey guys. Just an update on this bike.

It runs great after a tune up. Starts on first or second kick reliably. Idles perfectly. Been sitting for a week and didn't wetsump or leak a drop. (Not saying it's perfectly oil tight, but after a week not a drop on the floor.) I will get a video up of it running soon. Please let me know if you're interested as this will probably go on Ebay soon painted and polished for much more than current asking price. The seller is open to best offers -but don't bother with low balls. This is not my bike, but a very close friend's who is a life long motorcycle guy, president of Gateway Norton club http://www.gatewaynorton.com/ and expert Norton guru. I'm just passing it along.

Thanks!

This bike sold. Thanks guys! It's going all the way back to the UK. I can't believe that this didn't get swooped up here but it is the middle of winter. :-)

Well, I'm not at all surprised it's coming back home, I was very tempted myself at that price.

I'm the proud buyer, and after a few hiccups with the guy transporting it from St Louis to the shipping warehouse in Chicago, it's now tucked up safely awaiting the "homecoming"!

My first commando since the 850 mk3 I owned back in the early '80s that I eventually (after 3 engine rebuilds before I spotted the bent conrods!) got running nicely, then sold of course! :(

Really looking forward to it's arrival in a few weeks and sampling that lovely torque once again. Also after rebuilding much of a BSA Rocket 3 last year, the simplicity of the Commando will be much appreciated.

Mike was a real gent to deal with and couldn't have been more helpful, also thanks to John (Johnnymac) for facilitating this.

All the best

Dave

Nice one Dave. I do hope you'll share the rebuild with us as you progress with it?

I too was hugely impressed by the simplicity of the Commando compared to other Brits I've fiddled with.

Would happily post a pic of the beesa (it IS very pretty!) but this forum doesn't allow uploaded images off your computer? I don't have a photobucket or whatever account? I can look into it when the commando arrives though and post a few pics hopefully?
