Campbells Peashooters

Postby Skoti » Sun Jul 05, 2009 5:52 am

One of my Campbells peashooters has broken up inside and causes a horrible high frequency vibration through the throttle cable.

Outwardly the peashooters are in great condition after 20 years service, I only want to renew the faulty one if possible.

Presumably Campbells no longer make them, does anyone know if any other manufacturers make a peashooter identical in design to the Campbells version with visible seam welds?

Skoti :?

Skoti,
There was a company called Campbell Geometrics that made exhaust systems back in the 1970s/80s but I don't think they exist anymore, they were in Dartford, Kent. I've had a look on Google and one article on there confirmed that they are no more. (assuming it was the same company)
regards,
Dave.

Dave,

thanks for the reply.

Yes my peashooters are from Campbell Geometrics Company, what a shame they no longer operate as a company because the quality of their exhausts are much better than the original item fitted to my 1974 commando from new.

There were actually two Campbells!

Campbell Geometrics that made performance exhausts, and Campbells Platers (of Birmingham I think?), that made pattern exhausts.

"Campbell Geometrics" are now known as Campbell Custom Exhausts I think,-but may well be a different company now, although they have a similar shield logo?: http://www.campbellcustom.co.uk/

Skoti, do your exhausts have a "Campbells" stamp mark? Can you describe it, or post a photo? Although I don't think Campbells exist now either! [Edit] A reliable source from another website reported that "Campbells" were absorbed into the "Brituro" Company who still manufacture silencers in Birmingham: http://brituro.com/

L.A.B.

yes the stamp is a sort of laurel shield with "Campbells, replacement silencer, made in England" contained inside. :)

That stamp certainly identifies it as a "Campbells" of Birmingham product then, and not Campbell Geometrics. As you only intend to order one replacement, then no matter who you buy it from, it may not be an exact match to the other one, both internally and externally?

Think I'll buy a pair of peashooters from British Only in Austria, they advertise a pair of "made in England" peashooters for half the price of Norton Motors.DE, original parts. Not sure who in England manufactures them though.
