It's alive!!!!!

Postby Mark F » Wed Jan 04, 2012 4:56 am

Yes it is! Today at about 4.00p.m. the ol' Norton that I bought 2 day's short of a full year ago burst into life.
It took 5 kicks. Probably would have been a couple less if I had remembered to re-connect the balance tube that I had pulled off so I could hook up my balance gauges to later! Oh well.
It's not a ground up resto just a bit of a tidy up as well as a rebore, head recon, new iso's, geartbox o/haul, primary etc, etc, etc.
Thanks to Kelvin, Tim and Murray and all the fine folks on this site that lent a virtual hand.
I filmed the event so here it is.
Just click on the pic to watch it.

MarkF,

I'm not a huge fan of Orange....however with the Gold logo and pin-striping, it looks fabulous!!

Ray. I'm not too rapt in it myself, but that's the colour it was, so at the moment I will just have to live with it.

Great Job, Mark...she's a beauty....I've always liked that color combo.

BTW, next time you go to kick her over get your whole body up on that kickstart and come down with a combination of full body weight and leg push....don't kick her with your left foot planted on the floor and just pushing down with your right leg. World of difference.

That's what I do, means you have to do it off the prop stand or center stand though and no one recommends that. But I've been doing it off the prop stand (the weak early one) for nearly 14K miles now and no problems. I get up so my left foot is on the peg and put all my weight and muscle into the kick lever. I have seen people do it without a stand plenty of times though, even off to the side.

Thanks for the tip cmesssenk and Dave.
Dave I normally start my bikes astride and off the stand. Don't normally do it on the stand unless I am working on them.
That way if I stall it in traffic I can restart it without putting it on the centre stand.

Last time mine stalled in traffic, it ended up in lots and lots of unusable pieces and traffic was engulfed in a fog-like cloud of smoke. I envy your rideable motorcycle. And its pretty! Very nice job, again, Mark.

Very Nice . Matching helmet & Gloves ? not to sure about matching boots though ? :( . STALL  in traffic  Amazing how fast itll kick over , eight times   yea , pays not to wrench the stands off .Finger on the front brake makes it one dimensional ( lateral ) and you Vertiacl . Boing boing boing .

Cold , you push a few cylinders through so the chambers are primed ( the jappers cant figure this bit ) Then one leap . pushing through clears / wipes the oil trough too , so cold and stiff , 4 compressions no harm.
The one rule to the exception , is theres the exeption to each rule .
