Tail light assembled and installed. It's like a weird jigsaw puzzle, nothing straightforward with the MkIII.

Looking more and more like a bike, might be running by this weekend if all goes well and I don't get interrupted..

It looks like there are no heat insulators between the head and intake manifolds? Is that intentional or maybe just an artifact of the photo?

he should not be working nortons as i have seen other errors also on this one as with his other builds. he is good with polish and paint and that is about where it stops.

There just sitting there for a photo op. Filter still needs spacer rings, too.

I have the insulators and the washers. Just filling time till the clutch locating circlip arrives.

Didn't anyone notice the chain adjusters aren't on? My God, someone could get killed!

Circlip arrived, so I set the primary drive in place and gently snugged in the clutch basket.

Checking primary chain alignment - I used vice grips to gently clamp a section of alloy angle to one of the alternator housing studs with one face flat against top and bottom edges of the primary case near the drive sprocket, then measured the gap to the face of a primary chain plate.

Next, I relocated the angle back to one of the chain adjuster studs and measured the same gap near the clutch basket. They were the same, using the shims that were previously installed. So, no worries.

This is as clean as this area between the engine and transmission will probably ever be once it leaves the shop.

Primary cover with new seal & o-rings for the inspection caps, new gasket of course. Z-plate just set in place for now...

Rear master cylinder, totally gunked. Nice aftermarket stainless unit. Front wasn't as gunked up.

Ricks '75 MkIII Roadster resto/furb

Clean rear master cylinder.

Ricks '75 MkIII Roadster resto/furb

Rear piston was dirty, but it's stainless, so no corrosion. Front was in good shape.

Ricks '75 MkIII Roadster resto/furb

Rear brakes done including hoses, just need to fill and bleed.

Ricks '75 MkIII Roadster resto/furb

Front brakes done except filling & bleeding. Both terminals were broken off the brake light switch, replaced with a good one off the shelf.

Dirty starter parts...

Nice 4-brush conversion!

Commutator has a bad groove. I need to chuck it up in the lathe and turn it down, then undercut the mica in the slots.

Ricks '75 MkIII Roadster resto/furb

Starter Overhaul: Step 1 - chuck the armature in the lathe, center it and cut the commutator down till the low spot JUST cleans up.

Ricks '75 MkIII Roadster resto/furb

Step 2 - chuck the armature up in the mill vice and use a tiny bit to undercut the mica. Last time I did this was 38 years ago in the Navy, and we used thin, sharp hacksaw blades; took forever.

Nice and clean, ready to spin up.

Almost like herding cats, getting those 4 brushes back in their holders! I use o-rings to hold them, 1 at a time.
