Is anyone using a smaller lightweight battery in the stock tray? The stock size lead acid or AGM seem very big and heavy just to operate lights and points ignition.
I am using a 2 1/2 amp hr gel cell. It keeps up the lights at idle well enough (not prolonged idling). I have a magneto. I may go to a LED replacement for the tail/brake light, so that should help.
I fabricated an aluminum holder for the battery. It has room for Styrofoam cushions for the battery, and holds the battery via velcro strap. PM me if you want a sketch of it.
I think I will forget about lithium. Have seen too many lithium phone batteries which have failed, overheated or grown in size. Don't want that to happen in my garage. Will look for a smaller AGM type.
I have removed the battery and are running the bog standard setup , Lucas 2MC capacitor points etc . The motor starts fine with a big boot ( within 2 or 3 kicks ) and has enough output from the alternator to run with the lights on .
I tried it when my old battery gave up and haven't bothered replacing it.
I have been running a power-sonic 12N94B1-FS in my 67 P11 but it has died. I'm about to buy another battery so I'll probably get another of the same unless anyone has better suggestions. The one I was using fit fine in my battery tray.
