I have recently come to purchase what I believe to be a 67 P11 motor, primary and gearbox in a chopped/hardtailed frame.(very badly done)

I have a slim line featherbed frame I'd like to build up and I would like to know if the P11 engine with its Matchless primary is the same size as an Atlas,

Can I use stock engine plates? or do I have to convert to Atlas primary or fab new plates?

Thanks, I'm new to the forum. I have had Commandos for 20 years, Featherbeds and P11's are new to me.

p11 has a LOT shorter crank to gearbox mainshaft centers than an atlas / featherbed

Looks like you'll have to fab new plates.

You might study the final placement fore/aft and up/down, to end up with the best center of gravity. I don't know where that is, or should be, but it might be worth it to make all 4 plates, and not just a set of rear plates (then again, it might not). Doesn't hurt to study it.

2 important points are:

1) keep the drive sprocket very close to, and aligned with, the swingarm pivot

2) keep the engine weight as far forward as possible.

So, the two may work against each other to a degree in your situation. I'd concentrate on #1.
