Did any of the 1970 BSA Firebirds come with low pipes like the BSA Lightening?
I found one that has a fiberglass spitfire type tank with low pipes. He said it
was a A65F scrambler. I thought all Firebirds were scramblers with the higher pipes
not low pipes? Is this correct? It is also an oil in tank not a oil in frame.

Somebody swapped the pipes or the gas tank. If frame and engine numbers march, the model code is the final clue.

I did some more checking and I believe your right. The firebird scrambler never came with low pipes and in 1970
the tank and side covers were steel, not fiberglass.
Thanks for you reply.

There were also dealers that would swap parts from other bikes on the showroom floor to get whatever combo the customer wanted, in order to complete a sale on otherwise slow-moving inventory. Happened all the time. Bodywork, pipes, handlebars, etc.
