I have 750 frame with number 108xxx

"108xxx" isn't a Commando serial number and it isn't a Commando frame number unless prefixed by "850 F" in which case it isn't likely to be a 750 frame.

but where should it be on the headstock

This depends on what it is you actually have and where the stamp is now, so I think we need more information.

thx lab,its definitely a 750 commando frame part number is on the tank bracket, the number I thought was the frame number is under the vin plate my 850 frame is prefixed by 850 f on the offside of the headstock,if my suspicions are right the number shouldn't be under the vin plate and maybe there wasn't a number on the frame and someone has stamped one there?

Do you mean "it's definitely a 750 Commando frame(,) part number is on the tank bracket..."?

Or "it's definitely a 750 Commando frame part number..."?

I think it's unusual for a 750 frame to have a part number on the bracket, so, what is the part number?

the number I thought was the frame number is under the vin plate

There is often a 5-digit number (usually 001xx) under the plate of the 850 frames.

my 850 frame is prefixed by 850 f on the offside of the headstock,if my suspicions are right the number shouldn't be under the vin plate and maybe there wasn't a number on the frame and someone has stamped one there?

The 750 'frame' 6-digit serial number (which also normally matched the engine and gearbox number) was usually stamped on the plate and nowhere else, except the 1968 frames that had the number stamped directly on the frame headstock as certification plates weren't introduced until around early 1969.

thanks again lab, with what you,ve said im thinking I haven't a clue what ive got,but this is what I know, commando frame with number 108xxx under the vin plate,06 4140 on the front nearside tank bracket, there is no 850f prefix.thats why I thought it was a 750.my other frame is 850f129xxx stamped on the offside of the headstock,i cant see a 5 digit number under the vin plate,06 5632 is stamped on the nearside front tank bracket, which is what I thought was the part number on both frames, chris

108xxx under the vin plate 06 4140 on the front nearside tank bracket,

"06-4140" is the early 850 Mk1 frame part number. The later frame was 06-5404 according to the Mk2/2A supplement (are you certain the number isn't 00108?).

there is no 850f prefix.thats why I thought it was a 750.
my other frame is 850f129xxx stamped on the offside of the headstock,i cant see a 5 digit number under the vin plate,06 5632 is stamped on the nearside front tank bracket, which is what I thought was the part number on both frames, chris

"06-5632" is the 850 Mk3 frame (F129xxx would be 850 Mk3).
