1968 Commando Rebuild

Here is what it looked like when I got it... Partially restored. Color is wrong so I will either go stock green or red.

Here are some pics as i do the assembly. The bike came unassembled... 5 boxes of unlabeled parts. Here is some of the progress that i am making.

Hello qside, Is it a good strong professional type, thick paint job, or a cheap thin rattle can? The reason I ask is that although it may not be a correct factory color, it might end up looking good with the right pin striping and accents on the finished build (like maybe white or maybe black pinstripes/accent lines). The repaired headstock seems like it should be okay even though it is not precisely as per the frames that later followed yours out of the factory. Anyway just my 2 cents, thanks for posting. Cj

Looks like a good base to start with.

Our bikes are only 81 numbers apart so were probably pretty close on the assembly line. Mine is also a US bike so may have been on the same boat.

Ya the N15 will be my next project.
For those who asked, The green paint was done professionally. The previous owner picked the color. I am toying with signal red.
assembly is coming along. Some parts are missing. Some are wrong. Past owner mounted Dunlop K81 on front and back. The 4.10 tire on front is too wide to fit under the fender so I have to swap that out for a thinner model.

I just received the wire harness and will start to run that. Hope to have pix soon

I personally like the color. With the right color script, I think it would work. And you're not too far down the road from me so head West when you want to get some break in miles on it

I had the impression that all the 1968 bikes were silver metal-flake and didn't have the depression in the tank surface for the Norton badge. I left for Seattle in early July that year and was so busy getting into the Boeing way of doing business and adapting to driving on the "wrong" side of the road, I didn't keep a close watch on N-V.
