My 850 P!!, purests look away

Postby willh » Sat Feb 26, 2011 5:57 am

Last year I found a P11 basket locally for a 1000$. The frame looked straight but too much was missing to put it back together on a budget. I've always wanted one so I dropped the dough. My MKIII would donate it's power-train to the cause.
I bought and sold on ebay to get to a point that I had something to mock-up.

So here I am now slowly turning it into a roller. The small things, spacers, shims, bearings, adapters, welding and grinding are getting done. Another mock-up to insure myself that I'm on the right track.

Not sure on the stance, might lower it, and the engine/tranny need to move forward to allow clutch clearance.

Looks like a very cool project. I like the husky tank, wheels and high exhaust together.

I have a probable buyer for the "Have it Your Way" Commando, but I was considering doing the basic running rider in a "street tracker" fashion after seeing your mockup with the upswept pipes and tall bars. I also have access to a solo seat I built for a guy, would have finished off "the look" just right...

Thanks guys, I'll try to move it forward a bit as time allows.

I ran my Commando like that for a few years. SS/highrider tank , S-pipes, cut down fenders, raised-shortened rear loop, cut down seat, K&N flattrack bars, and bicycle speedo. The S pipes made exhaust woes worse but looked great. The thing always got attention wherever it went. I was pulled by the cops on more than one occasion just so they could take a look. Pulled over for other reasons on a few occasions as well

I just ran a few washer spacers on the machine at work to get my engine/tranny frame alignment sorted and now I see the need to move everything forward a bit to get the required clearances.
The spacing on the Hybrids was something else. I had a copy of the P11 spacing from Hy-cam before I jumped in. In the future I'll be able to run a 140 in the back if I want.
Are your tranny woes sorted on your Hybrid build? How did those pipes-shorty mufflers end up? Love to here a sound clip as it's basically the same set-up as what I'm going to be running.

Tranny woes are sorted, as are clutch issues; I'm down to detailing, but keep getting sidetracked. I WILL get it nailed down soon, riding weather is just around the corner, and it needs to get back to NC...
