1966 Atlas Gauges and Parts Question

Postby vespoid » Fri Feb 18, 2011 11:50 pm

My father recently acquired an Atlas and asked me to find the missing parts. So far things have been fairly straightforward but I need some help to cross of the last few items on my list.

What I need to know is what do I look for when I'm trying to purchase a set of gauges. The originals and their mounting bracket is missing and I haven't been able to find the actual part numbers and as of now, I'm not even sure what the face is supposed to look like.

I've also had some trouble locating some of the metal parts. Does anyone make repop headlight ears, chainguards, and top motor mount brackets for the Atlas or am I stuck waiting for somebody dismantling a bike to put them on eBay?

EDIT: Fair Spares and BritishOnly DO have chainguards and head steadies as I now know to call them, I was using the wrong keywords. I also think I found the gauge mounting bracket. Can anyone verify that 030358 is correct for the Atlas?

I can't help with part numbres at the moment, but DomiRacer / Accessory Mart hasd plenty of parts for the older Norton variants.

Yes, 030358 is listed for '66-'68 Atlas.

For Atlas parts, try:

'66 Atlas (MPH) speedo is a Smiths SSM3001/00 (Norton part 030258), and tach is RSM3003/00 (Norton part 030391) which would be similar to these replica items.

There is someone in ebay selling Indian made copies for very resonable prices, new for as little as $20.

Atlas speedo is a Smiths grey face 120mph unit and does not have a trip metre, the rev counter is a grey face 8000rpm unit.
